The estate

Vivaltus is the high-end project in Ribera del Duero of the Yllera-Martínez families in collaboration with prestigious wine maker Jean-Claude Berrouet.

Located in Curiel de Duero, in the very heart of the appellation, the winery combines the best technology with traditional methodology and the experience of one of the most iconic winemakers in history.

The project is based on working with some of the best vineyards in the region, some of them planted more than a century ago, alongside very precise viticulture and wine making procedures.

VivaltuS represents something completely new in our beloved Ribera del Duero; a different, elegant and fresh wine, hedonist and long-lived, showcasing our terroirs, landscapes and vineyards in each bottle.

Jean-Claude Berrouet.

The vineyard

The vineyards used in the assemblage of Vivaltus come from very diverse soils, orientations and altitudes which adds a lot to the complexity of our wines.

The main two areas are the following:

FUENTENEBRO:
• Plenty of red clay in presence of decomposed granite.
• Height: Between 900 and 1000 meters above sea level.
• Vines between 80 and 100 years old.
• Balanced grapes with great natural acidity and amazing elegancy.

LA AGUILERA:
• Sandy and calcareous-clay soils surrounded by pine woods.
• Height: 840 – 870 meter above sea level.
• Vines between 70 and 90 years old. • Grapes with outstanding finesse, freshness and fruitiness.

Walking through our vineyards is like walking trough time, they have witnessed so much thought the last century and we are so lucky to be able to let them keep telling us stories through our wines today.

The Vintage

Wine made by our winemaker Montxo Martínez alongside the great Jean-Claude Berrouet. VivaltuS represents something completely new in our beloved Ribera del Duero; a different, elegant and fresh wine, hedonist and long-lived, showcasing our terroirs, landscapes and vineyards in each bottle.

2017 was a hot and dry year, presenting complicated conditions for the vines, with droughts in both winter and spring. A harsh frost at the end of April damaged the seedlings, although fortunately the buds had not yet come out, and were therefore saved. The months of June and July were unusually hot, and these cumulative high temperatures went on to mark a hot year overall.
