The estate

A WORLD FAMOUS HOUSE : PULIGNY-MONTRACHET, POMMARD, MEURSAULT...

Vincent Girardin, the passion of a man born a winegrower.

The history of Vincent Girardin is quite recent. In 1980, at the age of 19, Vincent Girardin, who comes from a family that has been making wine in Santenay since the 17th century, wanted to make his own way and started with the two hectares of vines inherited from his parents.

Since his youth, Vincent has always had a passion for the work of the vine, for which he has great respect, and he wanted to produce his own wine from this vineyard. Very quickly, the quality of his wines was recognized worldwide and allowed him to expand his activity by concentrating mainly on the great whites and reds of the Côte de Beaune.

To meet the growing demand for his wines, he decided to create a new activity in Burgundy: the purchase of grapes from demanding winegrowers with the same philosophy as him.

His passion and curiosity led him in the 1980's/1990's to test everything that was being done at that time in terms of oenology. It is only in the early 2000's with the arrival of Eric Germain as winemaker, that a profound change takes place. They decided to concentrate on the essential: the expression of the great terroirs of Burgundy.

In 2012, Vincent Girardin handed over his business to a historical partner of the House. Mr. Nié, President of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in Beaune, naturally decided to rely on the small team of 9 people, loyal for many years. Eric Germain perpetuates the style of the wines and Marco Caschera represents them all over the world.

Vincent Girardin offers prestigious appellations from 9 villages in the Côte de Beaune: Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, Saint Aubin, Santenay, Savigny Les Beaune, Aloxe Corton, Volnay and Pommard.

For more than 10 years : RETURN OF THE VINE GROWER TO THE LABOUR AND NATURAL COMPOST
Haute Couture
Vincent Girardin's Grands Vins Girardin are the fruit of great qualitative changes. The House of Vincent Girardin has been perpetuating its "Très Haute Couture" winemaking ethics for many years.

After an experiment in biodynamic cultivation from 2007 to 2010, we now favour the purchase of grapes from vineyards managed according to the following principles:

* No weed killer or insecticide,

* In deep ploughing,

* Using natural composts from farms in the Burgundy region,

* High trellising for a better photosynthesis,

* Manual harvesting with sorting on the vine and in the vat room.

Whether it is for the Grands Crus of Meursault or the Grands Crus of Puligny-Montrachet, as for all the Grands Crus of the Maison Vincent Girardin, we are committed to the most natural winemaking possible. Thus, in the cellar, we continue the work initiated in the vineyards by:

* Use of very high quality equipment for a traditional vinification for the best natural expression of the terroir,

* A slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, naturally present on the grapes,

* Long maturation, on fine lees, in oak barrels from the best French forests, with a fair and sparing use of new barrels,

* The respect of the lunar calendar for all the stages of the wine making as well as the bottling, in order to preserve all the energy of the soils.

The quality of the wines is based on the technical choices made by the winemaker. Like the Grands Vins de Bourgogne Vincent Girardin, the white wines draw their quality from the finesse, the extreme aromatic purity, at the meeting point between fatness and vivacity.
The red wines are fruity and elegant, with supple tannins.
The success of this work requires the winemaker to be rigorous and vigilant at all times, in the service of each wine, because each bottle evokes a hillside, a particular exposure.

The vintage

A sunny vintage, with a slight frost on 27 April without any major damage. A very summery spring, with a few heat waves in the summer. Early harvest at the end of August.
The production is homogeneous and the quality undeniable. The wines have citrus notes, with fine aromas of pear, peach, and apricot. The palate is full, beautifully balanced and has a fresh tasty finish. A very good vintage.
