JANCIS ROBINSON

The estate

Maison Tardieu-Laurent is located in the heart of Provence in the picturesque village of Lourmarin in the Luberon.
This family-run, handcrafted Micro-Négoce created by Michel Tardieu in 1994, the first vintage.
The philosophy and working precepts are undeniably inspired and influenced by the Burgundian approach to the job.
Our DNA is defined by a fine, drastic and meticulous selection of grapes from Old Vines located in the "Mythical" Terroirs of each Appellation.

The vineyard

“Famille Tardieu has become one of the best micro-negociant in Rhone Valley. Nowadays, Bastien and Michel are exploring the vineyards to find grapes from very old vines, often located in the historical heart of each appelation. Then the link is made with the wine-grower, from the vine to the harvest. A real mutation has occured on the last vintages : large quantities casks, whole bunches vinification for some “Cuvées” and moreover, a leisurely ageing. You touch the sublime at each bottle.”

Bettane & Desseauve 2017

The Vintage

The Saint-Péray "Vieilles Vignes" 2020 from Maison Tardieu-Laurent is a dry white wine produced in the Rhône Valley wine region of France.

A terribly dry summer period will follow this rather wet start of the year. Dry once again. Once more. Bitter observation : 2020 is the third year in a row to suffer so badly from harsh drought… Fortunately, the nights are cool. As a result, the few “mean” rains
granted by Mother Nature become “life-saving” blessings. The vines survive, adapt…
And this is relevant to epigenetics, according to the learned term used by one of our Confreres…Only the Very Old Vines, meticulously worked, meet the expectations of the most demanding Vignerons. At the cost of low to extremely low yields... Nevertheless, by the grace of their deep roots, once again, the Very Old Vines recall that they are the key to success, in an odd Vintage too !

Tasting Notes

Eye, bouquet, palate

Appealing smoothness and great balance in this Wine, despite of the early character of the vintage. This, by the obvious grace of old vines, which have soaked up the best from the soil to reveal the whole grandeur of this Appellation.
