WINE SPECTATOR

the estate

Located in the famous village of Meursault, Domaine Jacques Prieur owns Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines on the best terroirs of Burgundy. From Montrachet to Chambertin, including Corton, Echézeaux, Musigny and many others, the estate encompasses 23 of Burgundy’s
most mythical appellations.

All our wines are either Grand
Cru or Premier Cru - except Meursault Clos de Mazeray, one of our 3 Monopoles.

The winery is run by an
experimented trio: Nadine Gublin, oenologist and technical director, Edouard Labruyère, managing director, and Martin Prieur, brand ambassador. Together with an expert team, they are dedicated to handcraft outstanding wines and to
entrench the reputation of Domaine Jacques Prieur in the elite of Burgundy.

the vineyard

Settled in Meursault since the 19th century, Domaine
Jacques Prieur today comprised 21 hectares (52 acres) of
vineyards (11ha/27ac in Pinot Noir and 10ha/25ac in Chardonnay).

The estate owns almost one third of all
Burgundian Grands Crus Appellations: Montrachet,
Chevalier-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Corton-Bressandes, Echézeaux, Clos
Vougeot, Musigny, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.

14 Premiers Crus complete this collection: Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes,
Meursault Perrières, Meursault Charmes, Meursault Santenots, Volnay Clos des
Santenots (Monopole), Volnay Champans, Pommard Les Charmots, Beaune
Champs Pimont (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir), Beaune Clos de la Féguine (Monopole, Chardonnay
& Pinot Noir), Beaune Grèves (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir) and
Chambolle-Musigny Combe d'Orveau.

Finally the winery also possesses 1 iconic Village Appellation:
Meursault Clos de Mazeray (Monopole).

Led by the vineyard manager, the estate has been following sustained
farming methods for many years: inputs have been dramatically reduced, soils
tillage has replaced chemical treatments, some tasks respect moon
calendar, etc.

The fierce will of the Labruyère Family to bequeath healthy terroirs to future
generations and the respect of the unique identity of each parcel enforced
the adoption of this "haute-couture"

The vintage

« All records are broken compared to normal :
Low rainfall - Exceptional sunlight - Temperature above 2°C »

April is changing all forecasts, due to high temperatures and good sunlight, and the vine is growing extremely fast. In mid-April, small buds turn into 5-6 spread leaves in one week in the precocious areas. In a few days, 2018 goes from being a late year to getting in the top-3 vintages with the earliest vegetation cycle (2007, 2011).

Under the influence of almost tropical weather conditions (heat and rain since late May), June is a very spectacular month when it comes to the development of the vineyard: in 3 weeks, we go from the end of the flower to the complete closure of the bunch. Another important fact is that, towards the end of June, the pressure of the mildew is increasing.

Due to very high temperatures and an exceptional sunshine, veraison kicks off by mid-July and, depending on the dryness of the sectors, the ripening stage is between 20% and 80% at the end of the month. The first half of August is very hot with temperatures above 32°C. These extreme conditions cause the vine stages to escalate rapidly, and once again, after 2003-2007-2011-2015-2017, the vintage earliness is confirmed. The harvest at the estate starts on August 29th and ends on September 12th. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are equally ripe and without any significant difference between the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.

The harvest took place in a dry, warm and very sunny weather (if not very hot from September 10th).
