The estate

Beauregard is a vineyard with a long history dating back to the 12th century. The Knights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem were the original owners of the land and cultivated vines on this site. The Beauregard family built the first building on the estate, which was replaced by the present château in the Napoleonic era.Château de Beauregard is a magnificent Gironde chartreuse which opens onto a terrace with two dovecotes overlooking a moat and a beautiful park, the work of a pupil of Victor Louis, architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Over the decades, successive owners have contributed to its development and its classification as one of the best wines of Pomerol. In 2014, Château Beauregard was bought by the Moulin and Cathiard families.

The vineyard

Located on the south-eastern edge of the famous Pomerol plateau, Château Beauregard was one of the first estates in the region to expand its vineyards in the 18th century. With an exceptional terroir composed mainly of gravel, the clay and sand provide a unique structure that allows the Merlot and Cabernet Franc to be shaped in an elegant, gourmet, fresh and racy way. The vineyard covers 17.5 hectares and more than 35 parcels are cultivated in a way that is adapted to their specificities. In order to better characterise the physico-chemical differences of the soils, an intra-parcel mapping has been carried out on the entire property. The soil, so precious and unique, is protected and respected, with everything being done to encourage its biology and natural functioning. The reasoned use of different seeds creates a biological diversity that favours life in the soil. The presence of trees and shrubs on the farm also encourages the presence of auxiliary fauna which is very useful in the fight against certain vine pests. As an environmentally friendly farm, the entire property is managed using organic farming methods.

the vintage

The 2015 vintage leaves the memory of a vintage with exceptional climatology, marked by a series of conditions favourable to the good development of the vine and its fruits.

The rise in temperatures in the middle of April activated the vegetation and allowed for a regular output. A hot and dry start to June ensured rapid and even flowering. The growth of the vegetation is slowed down by high temperatures (close to 40'C) at the end of June. The maintenance of this heat and the very low rainfall led to the gradual appearance of a slight water stress early in the season, a key factor in the success of a great Bordeaux vintage. The ripening period thus took place to the exclusive benefit of the grapes. Despite some rare and welcome storms, regular sunshine until the harvest guarantees the concentration of the berries and the excellent maturity of the tannins in the grape skins.
The manual harvest takes place from 17 September to 2 October.

A brand new harvest reception line combining 2 manual sorting tables, a high frequency destemmer and an optical sorting table was inaugurated.

This vintage is vinified in 22 new truncated concrete vats, thermo-regulated in the mass. The volumes are designed to carry out a true intra-cellular selection.

Fermentation takes place at a regulated temperature of between 25° and 30°C depending on the potential of the vats and the desired tannic extraction.
For the best vats, malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels from 7 different coopers.

Tasting Notes

Eye, bouquet, palate

The wine is deep purple in colour and develops intense and complex aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant, blackberry and morello cherry, which combine harmoniously with notes of violets, sweet spices, eucalyptus, undergrowth and a well-integrated toastiness. The palate is silky and delicious thanks to round, noble and perfectly ripe tannins. The tannic structure is generous and of great quality, guaranteeing volume, fatness and exceptional density. A welcome freshness enhances the whole and gives a balance of finesse and elegance. The finish, of remarkable length, perfectly punctuates the tasting with an aromatic return, a balance and an elegance worthy of a great wine. Without a doubt, a 20-year ageing potential for this Château Beauregard 2015.
