The estate

Bibi Graetz founded his winery in the Florentine hills in the year 2000 taking on the family vineyard in Vincigliata. Following in his father’s footsteps, is the son of the Israeli sculptor Gidon Graetz, Bibi studied Arts at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence and through his work as an artist the wine and winemaking changed his life. Since then, the winery has grown to reach the greatest collection of old vineyards in Tuscany.
Bibi Graetz has recently purchased the historical Villa Aurora in the main square of Fiesole. The new winery overlooking Florence is dedicated to his icon wines Testamatta and Colore.

"In two decades since his first vintage release, Bibi Graetz has become one of the brightest lights in Tuscan winemaking. This is primarily thanks to the superb quality of his pure-sangiovese Testamatta and Colore. Graetz draws on old vines, which give his best reds depth and soul. Red grapes are cultivated on the hillsides above Florence and sourced from prime sites in the Chianti Classico region, such as Montefili and Lamole. His whites from the island of Giglio are also an inspiration, proving that Tuscany can make great white wine, as well as red."

In 20 years, Bibi Graetz love for old vines on high altitude and native grapes has led him all over Tuscany to find the vineyards of his dreams. Now he has the biggest collection of old vines in Tuscany.

The Vintage

A wonderful wine, a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino in equal parts. Refined in French oak barriques for 30 months and in bottle for 18 months.

2008 vintage was extremely good. A cold winter was followed by a damp spring, which promoted a lower setting and millerandage. A hot, dry summer finally came at the end of June allowing a long and right ripening of the bunches.

Low yield and warm condition during the harvest period led to grapes with incredible quality.

Tasting Notes

Eye, bouquet, palate

Colore 2008 is extremely vivid and exuberant. Bright in acidity with firm tannins. It has such intense flavours of dark cherry and spice, with hints of chocolate. It can last for many years without losing its power and freshness.
